山城エリアで最も標高が高い位置にある山岳寺院、奈良時代の二大霊峰として鑑真や空海など多くの高僧が修行に訪れた修行の場。

A mountain temple located at the highest altitude in the Yamashiro area, it is a training ground where many high priests such as Ganjin and Kukai visited for training as two of the sacred mountains of the Nara period.

京都山城エリアの最高峰である鷲峰山（標高685m）の山頂に金胎寺があります。白鳳4年(676)に「役小角（えんのおづぬ）」が開基、養老6年(722)には越の白山行者「泰澄」が小角のあとを慕って来山し、堂宇や伽藍を造営したのが起源とされています。平城京の北東の方角「丑寅」の鬼門の位置とされるところから、聖武天皇の病気平癒を祈って、その勅願寺となりました。宗旨は真言宗です。、大和の大峰山とならぶ二大霊峰の一つとされており、修験道が修行する行場として栄え、鑑真や空海、最澄などが修行した記録が残っています。昭和63年に京都府歴史的自然環境保全地域に指定されました。

Kintao-ji Temple is located at the top of Mt. Washmine (685m above sea level), the highest peak in the Kyoto Yamashiro area. In the 4th year of Hakuho (676), Enno Ozunu'' founded the foundation, and in the 6th year of Yoro (722),Taisumi”, a Hakusan pilgrim from Etsu, came to the mountain following Ozunu and built a hall and a temple. It is said that this is the origin of the construction. It is said to be the location of the demon gate of “Ushitora” in the northeast direction of Heijo-kyo, so it was designated as a temple dedicated to Emperor Shomu to pray for his recovery from illness. The religion is Shingon sect. It is considered one of the two great sacred mountains along with Mt. Omine in Yamato, and flourished as a training ground for Shugendo, and there are records of people such as Ganjin, Kukai, and Saicho practicing there. In 1988, it was designated as a Kyoto Prefecture Historic Natural Environment Conservation Area.
