樹齢1500年とも言われる北山杉の大樹で、和束町で一番人気のパワースポットです。京都の自然二百選にもなっている選定植物で、再三の落雷にあったため本幹は倒壊しながらも、8本の枝木が一つの巨木として力強く生き続けています。奈良時代には、聖武天皇の第二皇子である安積親王が脚の病気になった際に、この大杉にその治癒を願われたとも言われています。
This large Kitayama cedar tree is said to be 1500 years old and is the most popular power spot in Wazuka Town. It is a selected plant that has been selected as one of Kyoto’s top 200 natural plants, and although the main trunk has collapsed due to repeated lightning strikes, its eight branches continue to live strong as one giant tree. It is said that during the Nara period, when Emperor Shomu’s second son, Imperial Prince Asaka, developed a leg disease, he prayed to this large cedar for healing.
